The 2011 census of India evaluated the population of Mathura to be 25,47,000.
Following the Hindu Holy writ, Mathura is the birthplace of Lord Krishna at the middle of Braj or Brij-bhoomi, known as Shri Krishna Janma-Bhoomi, technically: 'Lord Krishna's birthplace'.

Shri Krishna Janmasthan Temple is situated in the divine city of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. It is constructed around the prison cell in which Lord Krishna's parents, Mata Devaki and Vasudeva, were incarcerated by his sinful uncle Kansa.
The temple is of great importance for Hindus as it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. In addition to the prison cell, there are other temples situated within the Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex, dedicated to the deity.
On entering the temple, the holy ambience and its purity fill the heart with the belief that this is surely the place where Lord Krishna presented himself. Demolished many times by many kinds, it was eventually built with economic help from industrialists.
A visit to the Krishna Janmasthan Temple becomes more amazing at the time of festivals like Janmashtami, Basant Panchami, Holi, and Deepavali, which are celebrated with great spirit.
Rangeshwar Mahadev is a pulchritudinous temple devoted to Lord Shiva. This amazingly chiseled stone structure temple is in the southern part of Mathura. As we all are aware that Mathura is the Land of Lord Krishna, so there are very few Shiva temples in the city, and Rangeshwar Mahadev Mandir is one of them. The temple represents the simple Hindu style of architecture, and there are many beautiful paintings chiseled on the walls of this temple. Rangeshwar Mahadev Mandir in Mathura is among the few that are jammed by pilgrims throughout the year.
Birla Mandir is one of the popular temples of Mathura and is situated on the Mathura-Vrindavan road. This holy and beautiful temple was constructed by the capitalist Jugal Kishore Birla from the Birla Industries in 1946. There is a group of Birla temples throughout India, and the Birla Mandir Mathura is just one masterpiece of that group. Birla Mandir is also popularly known as the Gita Mandir as it has a pillar with Shri Mad Bhagwad Geeta carved on it. As the holy place is apart from the rush of city, this temple is considered to be the best place to spend your free time with family and your loved ones.
